March Nutrition Month
State Capitol

March 21, 2007        theme: Fruits & Veggies More Matters
Time: 10-2pm  Set up at 9:00 am.
Parking instructions have been sent.  Suggestion made to try to get parking on the street.  There will also be some Visitor Parking at the Capitol.
All participants need to let Pat know if electricity is needed for their display
List of Displays will be sent to Committee.
Awards will be given and entertainment provided between 12pm & 1pm.
Recipients of awards:  The Honorable Mattie Hunter, The Honorable William Delgado, The Honorable Tom Cross, The Honorable Richard Durbin, William Kling, Dennis Smith, Northern Illinois Food Bank, Macon County Teen Reach Program, Rock Island/Milan School District Head Start, Janet E. Maruna, Illinois Network of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies, and Springfield Urban League Teen Reach.
The MOU will be displayed along with the Proclamation

State Nutrition Action Plan (SNAP)

Cross collaboration meeting planned for July 27, 2007 in Chicago prior to SNE Annual Conference
 

Robin will check on reserving a meeting room at the Hyatt for INC meting on 7/26/07

Food Policy Council

Bill Kling is working to address Legislation on Nutritional issues; assessing strategies for food access.
There is a Food Policy Meeting March 29

 

Access and availability of fruits and vegetables

 

 

WIC and Senior Farmers Market

Discussing with CLOCC a project to improve access to fruits and vegetables, planning a meeting to discuss further.
CSFP is on Presidents list again to phase out.
SFMNP is a formal program now.  Rollin is working with Barb Reeves regarding a Banking system.  Coupons will be paid more quickly and we will know the redemption rate as coupons are redeemed instead of waiting until the end of the season.
There will probably be no more money available from Washington for Farmer’s Market.  There is a waiting list for counties wanting to be a part of the program.  There are currently 24 counties being served.

Legislative Status

Joan reported on legislation regarding school lunches.
Cheryl provided information regarding the ADA link on their public page.  A list of Committee Hearings scheduled is available.  Membership is not required.

Joan will forward a list of Bills regarding school lunches.

Pat will develop a Legislative listing and e-mail separately
