March Nutrition Month
State Capitol

. Table Displays 10 am – 2:00 pm set up 9 am
We want to highlight MOUs – put on an easel along with Proclamation
Diabetes / Obesity Program to have a Table together   
.  MOUs to be highlighted and Governors Proclamation
.  flyers for March Nutrition month will be sent again
.  Awards – Pat Quinn had to decline invitation to present awards, Carolyn Hodge-Brown will present in his place,  Sec. Adams has been invited to present awards.  Awards to be given to Teen Reach, ChildCare, Head Start, Food Bank, and legislators
Robin still needs summary of Awardees achievements
.  Entertainment – Dave has arranged for teens from Macon County and the Spfld. Urban League.  Macon County teens will have a presentation and the teens from the Urban League will have a display on “Fruits and Veggies, More Matters”
.  Robin said that there would be peat pots and seeds given this year.  Robin will use Ribbons and Streamers for each display in the colors of the Food Guide Pyramid.
Robin had an idea to get plastic fruit charms to put on lanyards as rewards for eating fruits and veggies.  Kids and Adults like them.
.  Pat will contact Cub foods for water donation and Robin is supplying water

- Corrections, Additions to Display list to be given to Cathy to update.

- Dave will coordinate with the two teen groups to arrange their entertainment.

- Pat will find out specific instructions for Parking / Drop off of displays at the Capital.

- Pat or Cathy will find out how many tables we can have for displays at the Capital.

- Pat or Cathy will give the final count of number of tables to Robin.

State Nutrition Action Plan (SNAP)

Cross collaboration meeting planned for July 27, 2007 in Chicago.
INC is submitting an abstract.  Penny will coordinate the abstract

- Robin is working on reserving a meeting room for the meeting 7/27.

Food Policy Council

Bill Kling is working to address Legislation on Nutritional issues; assessing strategies for food access piece; Farm Bill Reauthorization with Kellogg funding.  He would like to know of African-American farmers.  There is a Family Farm bill with a significant organic appropriation tied to it.

Access and availability of fruits and vegetables

There will be a display on the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program at the March event.

Legislation status

School Health Conference in ’07 – focus on expanding fruits and veggies.
Effort is being made to allow Seniors who receive small Food Stamp benefits to increase time allow for accumulation of benefits for six months.
